WE CAN BEAT ANYONE ON OUR DAY

The stage is set for Cinderford to climb into mid-table in National One after showing they can more than match the division's best.

The Foresters blasted through a tough-looking January with wins against title contenders Ealing and Rosslyn Park and deserved more than a losing bonus point at leaders Jersey.

Four wins from five matches has pushed them comfortably clear of the drop zone and on to the cusp of mid-table glory, with eighth place just two victories away.

With fixtures against teams directly below them in the next fortnight, Wharfedale at home tomorrow and Stourbridge away next week, head coach Dave Pointon said they were starting to get noticed.

"Things are going very well, we have proved now we can live with all the top sides and it has been an excellent month for us," said Pointon.

"We are getting close to other teams looking at us rather than us looking at them.

"We always knew that on our day we are capable of beating anyone.

"It is an exciting part of the season and anybody close to the set-up knows what we are capable of and there has been a lot of belief in the club."

The last time the two sides met in October, Andy Deacon's side gifted the Yorkshire men a 33-25 win through a series of costly errors.

Cinderford dominated the opening quarter of the game but could only come away with a 10-0 lead despite enjoying the better of the exchanges.

But Pointon said Cinderford had learned plenty of important lessons since that match and are a different team to the one Wharfedale beat.

"At Wharfedale away up there we gifted them chances, we made a lot of errors, individual and collective errors that gifted them the win," he said.

"A few people had a bit of an off-day then. It is a fair way to go and they are a good side but I think we have moved on a lot since that game.

"The number of turnovers we had, we would have had a job to beat anyone that day.

"The players believe in themselves now.

"All those close games that we had before Christmas, we are now turning them around so we are very much looking forward to it.

"Although there has been a break in the weather we have trained well– it has gone very well.

"The team are full of confidence and we have got more leaders on the pitch and communicating is better.

"We are very vocal so we are looking forward to the run of games now."

Cinderford will be picking from a fully-fit squad with fly-half and top point's scorer Rory Teague recovered from a hip knock.
