TRIGG: I CAN'T BELIEVE WE'VE DONE IT

The delight was written all over Forest lad Danny Trigg's face after seeing Cinderford clinch promotion to National League Two on Saturday.

But the full-back or winger also admitted to feeling shell-shocked in the immediate aftermath of their 15-14 victory over Darlington Mowden Park at Dockham Road.

Trigg replaced full-back Mike Hart after 54 minutes and took over the kicking duties from Phil Greenaway, who had missed all three of his conversions and a penalty attempt.

But Trigg only had one shot at goal himself, missing a difficult penalty kick.

"It still feels unreal. I never thought at the start of the season that we would be where we are now," said Trigg, who received a rapturous reception from the crowd when he took to the field.

"We've exceeded all expectations and I still can't believe it. Top two would have been an achievement in itself.

"We certainly didn't make it easy on ourselves and we should have put more points on them.

"I was happy to get on, but I was hoping to get a chance at a few more penalties. The crowd were fantastic when I went on and it showed how many people were here.

"I can't wait for next season now. It will be a big challenge in National League Two, but we will have a go at it.

"I'm sure there will be a fair few new recruits on board, but I'll work hard over the summer and keep pushing for my spot next season."

Director of rugby, Pete Glanville, was first to admit that their performance against their National League Three North counterparts left something to be desired, but he was not about to let that dent the celebrations.

"It was extremely nerve-wracking at the end, but that's what you get in a one-off game like that," he said.

"The nerves did get to the players. The pressure builds and we made uncharacteristic mistakes, but we won, and it doesn't matter if it's by one point or a hundred.

"It took us 10 minutes to settle and they caught us asleep early on to score a very good try. Their back-line looked dangerous throughout.

"It was vital that we scored twice when they had a man in the bin, and there would have been a third if James Copsey had practised his grounding, but that sort of thing happens in this type of game.

"We held firm under pressure, turned over ball when we needed to, and mainly played in the right areas.

"We had six minutes of injury time and there's only one thing you can do in that situation - shove the ball up your jumper and wind the clock down and we did that really well.

"I'm just so glad for the guys that we've done it and we're in National League Two next season.

"It's not just about the 19 out there today, it's about the 30, 35 players who have played throughout the season. That is why we have got to the position we are in."
