Cinderford Match Report

Cinderford 51 Chipping Sodbury 0

With less than a quarter of an hour turn around time to recharge their batteries after completing a 51-0 County Cup win over Chipping Sodbury, Cinderford unsurprisingly looked a little tired at the start of their second match of the morning and allowed Oxford to barge through for a soft opening try after five minutes. This score stirred Cinderford into action and, as the home side visibly got their collective second wind, they took the game strongly to Oxford, running in nine tries without reply and rarely allowing the visitors out of their own half for the remainder of the match.

Liam Littleton capped off a fine move to quickly level the scores at 5-5. Cinderford then showed superb handling skills at pace to keep the ball flowing and when Adam Briginshaw collected on the right wing and turned up the heat to race around the Oxford defence, brushing off two tackle attempts near the touchline before cutting back infield to score at the posts.

(Jason Walding caps off and excellent days performance by scoring Cinderfords third try, having caught the Oxford restart and powering through to score at the posts)

Jason Walding then collected the restart kick and went on a thundering run at the Oxford defence, smashing through the flailing tackle attempts and on to score a thoroughly deserved try, which, when converted by Jack Hopkins to the half time score to 19-5 to Cinderford.

Halftime : Half Time: Cinderford 19 Oxford 5

Within a minute of the restart Cinderford were advancing on the Oxford 22 line at pace, from where Liam Littleton chipped over the defence for Tom Ward to race through and score. Some excellent forwards play at the ruck and maul by Toby Farrier, Jake Drinkwater and Jake Bonser drove Oxford back and drew in the extra numbers so that, when the ball came out quickly to Luke Kell, the Cinderford centre was able to dart through a gap in the stretched defence to score under the posts from 35-meters out.

 Cinderford v Oxford (Touring Side)

(Tom Wards Swallow Dive to score Cinderfords eighth try against Oxford, not something that is likely to go unnoticed by the Fines committee for the imminent U14s Tour to Cornwall. )

Having back-peddled to collect a long kick downfield just a meter in from the left touchline near his own 22, Tom Ward returned the kick with interest up field to find touch. Jake Bonser got a hand to the Oxford lineout to tap it back on the Cinderford side and as the ball hit the floor it was hacked ahead in quick succession, firstly by Chance Ridler then Tom Ward and finally by Liam Littleton, who raced through to drop on the ball in-goal and claim the try and take the score to 36-5.

 Cinderford v Oxford (Touring Side)

(Rhys Gardner gets the ball out quickly to his backs at the start of a passage of play sees the ball worked sharply across the width of the field left and then back again to be finished off in the corner by Adam Briginshaw with Cinderfords ninth and final try of the match, to seal a 55-5 victory.)

Liam Littleton and Adam Wilce then bagged a try apiece as Cinderford started to run away with the match and Oxford tired. Cinderford prop, Jason Walding made another fine run from deep and was well backed up when tackled so that the ball came out quickly to Tom Ward, who used his tremendous turn of pace to sprint around the outside of the defence and back infield to score at the posts. Ryan Walding converted to bring up the second fifty point score of the morning for Cinderford. Minutes later Adam Briginshaw went over in the corner to complete the last move of the match and take the final score line to 55-5 to Cinderford.

Overall this was an outstanding display by Cinderford, to play two games back to back games, scoring 100+ points from 18 tries and only 1 try conceded in matches of non stop fast paced rugby, and still give the impression at the end that they could run out and do it all over again!
