Cinderford Match Report
Cinderford Stags 37 Widden Old Boys II 0
Cinderford Stags scored seven tries to nil in beating Widden Old Boys II at the Cinderford Bridge Ground. This was a Gloucester Merit Table Division 1 match and the Stags remain in top place.
The first half was a scrappy affair with the weather conditions influencing the style of rugby played. Widden started well using the slope and placing kicks behind the Stags defences. The Stags took a while to come into the game but after a foray into the Widden twenty-two on fifteen minutes, they were awarded a scrum when Widden infringed. A back row move created the overlap for winger Ryan Davis to score in the wide right corner. Ten minutes from half time, another surge by the Stags forwards saw second row Andy Boxall crash over.
Half Time : Cinderford Stags 10 Widden Old Boys 0
With slope and Widden on the back foot, the Stags took control of the second half. The Stags held a lot of territorial advantage, Widden defending well. The deadlock was broken with 25 minutes to go, prop Mark Bluett crashing over. Four further tries were scored through Jonny Jelf (2), Jake Hinds and another from Bluett. Mike Baldwin made one conversion. The pick of the tries was Jake Hinds effort, who raced forty metres through several Widden defenders.
A final note to thank the Stags replacement Ian Taylor, Mike Jelf, Darryl Peters and Shane Ranford who made guest appearances for Widden. Widden to their credit fulfilled the fixture bringing 13 players.
