Cinderford Match Report

Old Cryptians 0 Cinderford 37

In the opening game of the Bucks season, Cinderford travelled to Old Cryptians.

The early exchanges removed the cobwebs of the closed season; with Cinderford getting into their stride and after 20 minutes Scott Robbins scored the opening try. Both sides worked hard, under warm, sunny conditions and 10 minutes later Shaun Partridge burst from a maul, using his strength to score the second try. Both teams tried to play an open style of rugby and Adey Wilce rewarded good pressure from the Cinderford forwards with the first of two tries.

Half Time : Old Cryptians 0 Cinderford 15

The second half saw Cinderford reduce their errors, with some good handling amongst the forwards. Jonny Jelf crossed for the first points of the second half, with Shane Ramford crossing the line five minutes later. With seven changes Cinderford became a little disjointed, whilst they came back up to speed. This allowed Cryptians back into the game and would have scored, but for a try saving tackle by Joe Halusack, In his rugby career debut. Man of the match Scott Robbins broke from Cryptians half making good yardage, with the forwards recycling the ball quickly, popping the ball to Whacky Wayne Phillips, who held onto the ball to cross the line from five yards!!

The Bucks continued the pressure and Adey Wilce crossed the line by the post, converted by substitute Mike Baldwin.

A number of people were playing for the first time in senior rugby. They were Ben Phelps, Peter Stanley, Nick Teague, James Risby, Andrew Lloyd, Joe Halusack and Peter Balaz. After the game, coach Mark Gayther said he was pleased with the first win, but the team will be working on the number of turnovers conceded, ball handling, conversions and drinking!!
