Cinderford 53 v Loughborough Students 31
Loughborough Students scored an early try as they drove forward from a lineout taken on the 22m line, and their attack proved too much for Cinderford as Seb Rodriguez-Davis finished well in the corner, with Felix Champain adding the conversion.
A second try followed soon afterwards, as sustained pressure under the posts saw hooker Henry Bonetti bundled over the try line, again converted by Champain.
Cinderford fought back with Kyle Harris scoring their first try of the day and a second soon followed as Sam Smithโs powerful run down the right-hand side saw him score in the same corner.
The visitors scored next as Cinderford tried to hold them back, but Connor Van Lille got the ball over the line, and Champain converted successfully to make it 10-21 after just 18 minutes of play.
It was important for Cinderford to score next, and they did, with prop Ollie Johnson the scorer, with Joe Winfield landing the conversion.
A clever kick through then allowed Cormac Saint to run onto it and score for Cinderford as they took the lead for the first time; Winfield converted.
Having found his confidence now, Winfield intercepted in the middle of the field for a clear run at the line to score for Cinderford, converting it as well. Cinderford ended the half strongly to turn things around after a tough opening.
Half Time: 31 – 21
The second half kicked off, with Cinderford having a great chance when a kick through allowed them to chase with the ball going over the line, but in a similar fashion to the first half, Loughborough recovered to hold the ball up and prevent going further behind.
Loughborough were next to score as Louis Nancekivell ran down the right-hand side after being offloaded the ball to touch down in the corner.
There was a very quick response from Cinderford as Rio Ebanks scored, and Winfield converted.
Loughborough scored again; from a lineout they pushed towards a congested try line, and Cinderfordโs defence was unable to hold them off, with Monty Wells the scorer, to make it 38-31.
The feast of scoring continued as Cinderford proved too strong for their opponents on this occasion as they mauled over the line for a try scored by Jacob Perkins, converted by Winfield.
Then Smith added his second as he did well to break through the lines with great pace and finish confidently.
Winfield then landed a penalty, and this proved to be the final score in an exhilarating match.
