After Saturday’s heavy downpour, many expected a wet and scrappy encounter on Sunday morning. Instead, the clouds broke and the new state-of-the-art pitch was bathed in sunshine, setting the stage for Cinderford U15s’ first pre-season test against Chippenham.
With adapted rules in place for the pre-season fixture, Cinderford started slowly and found themselves under pressure for much of the first half. Defending bravely, they worked hard to keep Chippenham at bay, but the visitors crossed for two converted tries to take a strong 14–0 lead into the break.
Half-time: Cinderford 0–14 Chippenham
The second half saw a different Cinderford side take to the field. Playing with the wind, the hosts began to find their rhythm. Tyler Crowell and Tyler Gwynne both touched down with well-taken tries — two scores that were equally classy but very different in style. Chippenham responded with another try of their own, which ultimately proved the difference.
Final Score: Cinderford 12–19 Chippenham
Despite the result, this was a hugely valuable test for the team. Chippenham are sure to be among the toughest opponents faced this season, and the boys showed real determination and progress.
Coach Pete summed it up well:
“More positives than negatives, but plenty to work on in training.”
With no official man of the match due to pre-season, there were still plenty of standouts:
-
Sam – aggressive and relentless
-
Alex – everywhere on the pitch
-
Billy – fiery debut performance
-
Centres – solid defensive effort
-
Tyler G – captain’s display capped with a try
A strong first outing for the Cind, with lots to build on as the season gets underway.
